Windows 8.1

This question is not answered

I recently purchased a Inspiron 14Z 5423 .  It came with Windows 8 Home and I wasn't happy with it at all.  I downloaded  Windows 8.1 but can't run Cisco VPN Client any longer.  I want to bring it back to 8 or even upgrade to 8 Professional.  Can I install 8 Professional over 8.1?  or how do I bring it back to the original Windows 8?  I backed it up prior to installing 8.1, but it says I need the original disk incase of problems.  I didn't receive any disks with my system.

  • Hi jackie1128,

Windows 8.1 Preview and Windows RT 8.1 Preview should work with the same devices and programs that work with Windows 8 and Windows RT. In some cases, the device or program might not work or may require an update, or you might need to uninstall some programs, and then reinstall them after installing Windows 8.1 Preview.

Refer the following link which has FAQ’s regarding Windows 8.1:

Please go through the steps under”Can I uninstall Windows 8.1 Preview?” to revert Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.

After reverting back to Windows 8, you can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro.

Follow the steps below to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro:

On Windows 8, this is now called adding features to Windows. You can do this using the Get more features with a new edition of Windows link in System Properties, shown below.

This is also available in the Windows Activation interface in Control Panel, in the form of an Add features to your edition button, shown in Figure  in the Activating Windows section near the beginning of this module. Using either of these paths starts the Add features to Windows 8 interface, which is shown below.

This interface gives you two options:

I want to buy a product key online: Clicking this option will present a list of available Windows editions, based on your current edition. The two possibilities are:

Currently running Windows 8: Windows 8 Pro Pack

Currently running Windows 8 Pro: Windows 8 Pro Media Center Pack

I already have a product key: Clicking this option lets you enter a product key directly, which is useful if you already purchased an upgrade edition, or have a boxed Windows edition that you want to use to upgrade your PC.

Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks & Regards
