i cannot do a clean boot as I cannot access windows desktop. I get the initial dell logo, and it then goes to the blue error screen.
The safe mode has not worked. The same thing happens.
Any other suggestions?
i have tried refresh, automatic repair, and system restore with the operating disc but nothing works. I have files on it and don't want to do a wipe..
it also said my drive is locked when I try to refresh it.
In this situation, I would suggest you to try Windows 8 Reset. That is resetting the computer to it's original factory state.
**Note: Please ensure to back up all the data from your computer before resetting the operating system to the factory state as it would erase everything from your computer.

But how can I back up all the files if I cannot access wIndia's desktop? It is a laptop so it is not as easy to pull out the hard drive and attach to another computer.

We recommend backing up all data before you restore the computer to its factory settings. In case you have any important data which you have not backed up, you can back them up by removing the hard drive from your computer and connecting it to another one. If you are uncomfortable in removing the hard drive, you may take it to a local store/ technician. In case you do not have any important data, you can continue with the Windows 8 Reset. Hope this helps!
I have exactly the same issue. Ran system recovery ended up with blue screen with same error 0xc000021a

I have exactly the same issue. My XPS 15 is only 3 months old and is under warranty and Dell suggested that I reseat the hard drive. Since I do not have the correct screwdriver they are going to send out a technician. This is not the first issue I have had with it. Guess they don't make them like they used to. Hopefully the reseat will fix it.
