Good Morning, I updated my Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 Laptop from Windows 8 Pro to Windows 8.1 Pro by using Store Application.
After Waiting for almost 6 hours, Update was done and after Windows setup, Display was black, Cursor was blinking.....I checked in Microsoft website and i found that not only me and many Dell customers are facing the same issue. i was luckily able to boot to safe mode and i uninstalled the both of my video drivers and i am back to my windows 8.1. After i update my video drivers as mentioned in the link below, still my screen blacks out. So i had no other option than resetting my pc to windows 8 pro.

When i was checking for latest driver for Intel Graphics & AMD Radeon that supports windows 8.1, I am able to find a driver in dell website.
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/sg/en/sgdhs1/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-17r-5737?driverId=6GGGM why it's not yet updated in the corresponding product driver list.... Actually i think these are the fix. I am not sure.
If any one has updated and i need a dell support for this
If you are unable to go to Recovery Mode by pressing F8 or F11. Try to force shutdown the system 2 or 3 times while booting and System will go to Automatic Repair and There you find an Option called "Advance Options" & "Restart". Select that Advance Options and proceed from Step 3.
I apologize for not seeing this sooner. There are specific video drivers that will need to be installed after updating to Windows 8.1
AMD Radeon HD 8670M Driver
AMD Radeon HD 8850M / 8870M Driver
Intel HD Graphics 4400 Driver
Please be sure to install the Intel driver before the AMD driver. Please post here if you continue to have problems with updating to Windows 8.1

Thanks for the links to the Win8.1 video drivers.
Do I need to install this version of Intel HD graphics Driver (version: 10.18.10.3308,A01) if I have newer one: 10.18.10.3316? The same question with AMD driver, which I have is version 184.108.40.206.
However, I am still having the same problem with installing AMD drivers for Radeon 8850M - during installation the laptop (5537) goes black and unresponsive.
I've already had to reinstall windows from 8 pro to 8.1 twice, so I would be pleased if I could find some help.
If you're interested what I've done, so I updated laptop to Windows 8.1 and my catalyst control center gave me error message. So I tried to install new AMD driver, which you recommend on your DELL site : http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/lt/en/ltdhs1/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-15r-5537?driverId=6GGGM&osCode=WB64A&fileId=3291482084&languageCode=EN&categoryId=VI And then the screen went black. So I left it for the night (approximately 7 hours) and in the morning it still was black. So I restarted my computer and began all Windows update processes from scratch again. Maybe, AMD drivers aren't supposed to work with this version of Intel HD graphics? Or is it just windows 8.1?
Hopefully, you will manage to help me.
Thank you for your time.
Hi i have a inspiron 15 model and i already have the amd radeon hd 8670m driver n am still getting a black screen
What can i do now
i have inspiron 15R n5110 and i am facing the same problem
i have installed all these three drivers and again updated to windows 8.1 but still no results
The screen is still black after signing in
Please any Dell representative give me solution
Thankyou very Much
I installed the video drivers but it says that my system doesn't meet the requirements. I checked and it looks like my processor (2nd generation) is not enough for this driver installation.
It's there any other possibility than uninstall windows 8.1.
I seem to have this same problem. However, The links you placed do not work:
On the 24th Dec my brand new Dell Inspiron 15 3537 with AMD Radeon 8850M and Intel HD 4400 arrived. Within the first day I prompted to update to Windows 8.1 and after waiting for a good 3 hours the installation failed and I had to go back to the industrial settings ( I don't know if I have to blame Microsoft or Dell for this but it was unacceptable). However I tried once again this time running nothing while downloading and installing Windows 8.1.
This time (again waiting for a goof 3 hours) it worked but troubles weren't over for my BRAND NEW LAPTOP. Every time my laptop went to sleep or the screen turned off then it wouldn't turn back on. I realised that was a common problem for Dell laptops reading on-line and despite this Dell hasn't relished an official solution for this. Reading lots of forum and experimenting I realised that the drivers for my AMD Graphics Card were not properly installed.
But then I had to spend a whole afternoon to find compatible drivers. The drivers from AMD website were not working and of course the drivers from Dell's support page for Inspiron 15 were not up to date. I only managed to fix the problem after two painstaking days only when I found your link to: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/sg/en/sgdhs1/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-17r-5737?driverId=6GGGM
I owned a Sony Vaio before and I must admit my introduction to Dell laptops has been the worst possible. Why on earth would the Dell driver utility on my laptop say all drivers are up to date when clearly they are not. Also you have to update the drivers for Inspiron 15 on your support website asap.
Thanks for the link MARIOSFOURN. I also installed this and then ran 3d mark again....but still it keeps saying "GRAPHICS DRIVER IS NOT APPROVED". And the score is way below what I would expect (846 instead of 2200+).
But for now there have not yet been any driver crashes yet.
Have to admid this is the worst Dell I've had so far (and I had a few). Thinking about installing windows 7, perhaps that makes it easier driver wise....
WHAT THE HELL DELL??? Suddenly both AMD and intel drivers are not recognized and even deleted from the system...cant even use a hdmi cable to link to an external screen...
Please give me a downgrade to windows 7, cause this sucks bigtime!!!
Finally....at least lets keep the finger crossed...but I think that version 13.12 from the AMD site (http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/mobile?os=Windows%208.1%20-%2064) did the trick and games are working as they should (no crash yet either).....
I recently had the same problem but its okay now.
Here is what to do.Go to device manager
2. Expand display adapters
3. Right click the AMD Radeon and click update.
4. Make sure you have enabled your device installation setting so that you could download the latest update from windows update center.
5. Here is how to enable that. click the link below
6. Restart your system and you are good to go.
errr....that was obviously the first thing I tried..update gave no new drivers (they where fine according to the message). I deleted it and re-installed, tried the drivers from Dell and AMD, but to no avail...untill I tried the AMD catalyst from 18-12-2013 again and somehow that worked suddenly.....
I don't dare to touch those drivers again, but have the problem now that I cannot get the laptop out of sleep mode anymore which suck cause I need to restart every time now (an no I do not have a SSD :(()
Ok...i thought i might give it another try since it had been some time i tried your suggestion...and what do you know; it f'd up my machine again...many thanks....
I installed Intel hd graphics, then installed amd radeon hd 8850/8870 driver... while installing the latter my system went into fault state. ... Now it only blinks... That too for so long... Kindly respond me to guide me to rectify this problem. Thanks
