INSPIRON 530 UPGRADED VISTA TO WINDOWS 7, CD-ROM DRIVE NOT WORKING

This question is not answered

I'm not a computer whiz you can see by the desciption of problem but am hopeful I can be helped.  Upgraded my Inspiron 530 from VISTA to  Windows 7 not knowing it causes some issues with registries as I've been told.  I've looked @ Dell & Microsoft's sites & can't find how to get the unit to recognize the cd-rom drive and have an audio issue.  Errors are Code 10, 1B63:0F1B, 1B63:101B, 1B63:161B, and 1B63:171B. The cd drive has only been used a few times so it shouldn's be worn out. Your help is appreciated!

  • Hi Sherry32,

Follow below mentioned steps which can resolve the issue:

    1. Click Star, and then click All Programs.
    2. Click Accessories, and then click Run.
    3. Type regedit, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
    4. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry sub key:
      1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    5. In the right pane, click Upper Filters.
    6. Note: You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click Upper Filters only. If you do not see the Upper Filters registry entry, you still might have to remove the Lower Filters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.
    7. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    8. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    9. In the right pane, click Lower Filters.
    10. Note If you do not see the Lower Filters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
    11. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    12. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click yes.
    13. Exit Registry Editor.
    14. Restart the computer.

If upper filters and lower filters are still missing you can go ahead and run the Microsoft fixit.

I have provided a link to run Microsoft Fixit:

For Audio issue, uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers:

    • Click “Start”, type “Device Manager” and press enter.
    • In the “Device Manager” window, click the plus sign next to “sound, video and game controllers” to expand it.
    • Under “sound, video and game controllers” right click on sub option, click “Uninstall”.
    • Check the box “Delete driver software for this device”, click ok and follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall audio driver.
    • Restart the computer

Install the Audio drivers from the below link:
