resetting the BIOS password for a Inspiron 1545 laptop

This question is not answered

I'm working on a DELL inspiron 1545 that needed a new motherboard, it's working but now it's saying this computer system #<Admin Note: removed per privacy policy~RK> , IS PROTECTED BY A PASSWORD AUTJENTICATION YOU CANNOT ACESS THE DATA ON THIS COMPUTER. Before this it was looking for the password, Custemer did not remember it so i hit f2 and set to factory settings. At one time I found a video on junping the two legs on on the BIOS chip and can't find it any more.

We can recover the password if you provide me the error message.

Once you get a BIOS password screen, look for error that is displayed at the bottom half of the screen. Kindly private message the error message displayed.

  • Hi PC WIZARDRY,

As the computer boots into windows, this is an issue with the BIOS password/hard drive password. We need the complete error code to reset the password.

Kindly private message the error code with the service tag.I will review your account and take the case forward.

  • I'm trying to recover one like this, I know it's an old machine and got into the same issue, can I send you the screenshot of the boot?

I see no error code and the owner of the machine brought it because she says she had never locked it before and thus is befuddled by this new screen and can not access her laptop

    Thanks

  • At one time I fund a video clip showing how to jump two (2) pins on a chip to bipass the pass word issue but it was remove from youtube.

  • I am in desperate need of help getting into my computer I have been locked out of it for over a year because I lost my windows password, well I had my cousin helping me trying to get into it and she somehow locked the Bios, and i do not have any idea of what that password could be so here I am now even deeper in. I bought it at Sam's Club & it's still covered with them but not anything with the Bios so they told me to contact Dell which I have done numerous times in the past year & 1/2 , only to be told no they cannot help me with anything but they always try to sell me some expensive package. I cannot believe how bad I have been done by them, I always thought of  Dell as a great, respectable company but my view has certainly changed as I sit here with a 4 year old computer that I have not gotten to enjoy or use. Thanks Stacy

  • Hi Stacy,

Dell is very strict about this sort of thing. You will need to prove ownership ie all the details about to whom and to where it was purchased.

If you purchased your laptop on eBay, send it back to the seller for a refund.

Also, are you sure it is a BIOS password and not a Windows password? Did you just try hitting the Enter key?

Please help me understand if computer is asking for windows password (where the computer boots up after windows log on screen?) or Is it after Dell logo(BIOS password).

Once you get a BIOS password screen, look for error that is displayed at the bottom half of the screen.

Kindly private message me the service tag of the computer. To private message click Here, then click "Send a Private Message".

The computer originally was my daughters but she gave it to me to see if I could fix it, (would not power on).

I have requested transfer of ownership.
