Thanks for the info you sent me Rick. I still seem to have a problem. I followed the instructions but when it came time to download the windows 7- 32bit it said it was updating my system but it seem to this forever ( 8hrs) which seem unreal. I am wondering what went wrong I uninstalled the program for the printer before putting the 7-32bit in it's place. So I began again the same thing happened. What is the problem? The printer has always been in English. I am sorry it seems I don't understand your instructions but I really need your help with this. Also is it possible to us the 2 discs that came with the printer which say it supports Vista and XP 2000 etc. The other disc says drivers and downloads. I do not see the .net.framework in the programs. please tell me what to do I am at a lost for words.
On the computer you need to install the printer, Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.
Also provide the virus program and firewall you're using.
Printer is wired or using the wireless adapter?

Welcome to Dell Community!
Posting Finding System Information (REMOVING THE REGISTERED OWNER AND PRODUCT ID) would help unless you're using Windows XP.
I needed to see the make and model of the computer and operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit?
Operating system in English or another language? Did you recently install/reinstall Windows?
Windows Defender, usb cable attached.
Can you copy a document under the glass of the printer? Black and white and color? Printer should be able to make copies with being attached to the computer.
This is the info requested by Rick. My computer is a HP p2-1310 w/ windows 8 which was later upgraded to 8.1. This is when all my problems began the printer was working fine w/ windows 8. My computer language is English it is also 64 bit. I can make a copy under the glass in color, also black and white while connected to the computer. I am still trying the info you sent earlier. Thanks
When you upgraded, did you install the chipset drivers from HP's website? It may help your system.
No guarantee this will work but I have heard other members got their printer working.

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 8.1 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 8.1 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...
