Welcome to Dell Community!
I followed all of the steps above and installed the firmware update on Dells website, but I am still not able to print. I am connected to the printer, but when I select print, I get a "Communication Not Available" message. Is I select something like "Align Print Cartridges", I get a "This option is not available because the printer is not currently communication." message. I am connected to the printer wirelessly, but I get the same errors when I am connected via USB.
When I tried to install the printer via USB, when I got to the part of the instillation where it says to connect your printer to the computer via USB, it did not recognized when I connected it and I was unable to click the next button to proceed to the next screen.
I have rebooted my computer and the printer several times to no avail. I have a window 7 PC currently using this printer wirelessly and it works fine.
I have windows 8.1 64-bit
Please help, I am extremely frustrated.
Virus program and firewall installed?
Did you try installing the Vista 64-bit drivers in the Vista SP2 Compatibility mode?
Thank you for responding so quickly. I do have a virus program and firewall installed. I allowed the instillation fire through the windows firewall when I installed it and I did install the 64-bit version in Vista Service Pack 2 compatibility mode. Is there anything else that I need to allow through the firewall?
What virus program and firewall are you using?
Just to note that I have the same issue with a just bought inspiron 14z... I currently running the pre installed McAfee suite which includes a firewall. I tried disabling the firewall last night but did not notice a difference.
Last night in trying to resolve this I tried installing the Win7 drivers in Win7 compatibility mode but notice that you suggest using Vista. So I might retry with that tonight.
What I see is that the print jobs seem to get to a certain % and then hang.... ie 19Mb/20Mb
The instructions worked for me thanks Rick...... so in summary it was just a case of uninstalling the printer and reinstalling with the Vista compatibility flag set...... (windows 7 did not work)....
Of course it would be alot simpler if we had windows 8 drivers.
Try reading THIS ARTICLE. It should help you allow the printer past Trend Micro's Firewall.
Lexmark made this printer for Dell and they went out of the printer business. I doubt if you'll find newer drivers for these printers. I have noticed that the Vista drivers have been working for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 systems.
Thank you so much for all your help! Here's what I did to finally get everything to work:
I uninstalled the V305 driver using the V305 uninstall tool. Just removing the printer did not work.
I disabled my firewall and virus software temporarily while installing the printer.
I installed the driver in compatibility mode as I did before.
I tested to make sure the printer printed and it did!
I then enabled the firewall and made sure anything Dell or Lexmark was allowed through the firewall.
Printed another test page to make sure everything was still working.
I then enabled my virus software and added C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell V305\Wireless\dldtwpss.exe and the driver (R264842.exe) to my exception list. I'm not sure if the was necessary, but I figured I'd be safe rather than sorry.
I then printed another test page just to make sure it was still working.
Thanks again for all your help!
Glad you got it working! Thanks for posting back.
