I just purchased a Inspiron 5721Laptop. Shortly before this I purchased a HP Photosmart All-In-One B210series printer. Just now tried to install on laptop and got the message that it would not work with Windows8. Is there anyway around that or am I stuck with a printer I cannot use? Since I am here, let me ask another question please. Can Windows8 be uninstalled and Windows7 installed? Thank you if you can help me.
You have free download rights from Win 8 Pro to Win 7 Pro. Otherwise, you'd have to purchase a new license to install Win 7.
Look on the HP site for a Win 8-compatible driver.

HP has drivers for most printers for Windows 8. Go to their site and search for the driver. If ir has one, it is compatible. Here's a link to the 64-bit driver for the B210a with Win 8: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=4021935&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us

Likely the installation cd that came with your printer is old (incompatible with Windows 8) and you should forget about it.
The HP printer drivers for Windows 8 is quite good. My HP printer works much better under Windows 8 than it did under Windows 7 or Vista. The Full Featured Software is here:

The Inspiron will have the Home version of Windows 8 and there are no downgrade rights. Windows 7 can be installed and Windows 8 removed from the system but you will have to pay for a Windows 7 license. To install Windows 7 see my Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows 7:
If its just the awful user interface of Windows 8 that you don't like i.e. the reason you want to uninstall Windows 8 and install Windows 7. Then you should consider installation of classic shell. See page 130 of Windows Reinstallation Guide/Desktop Enhancements. You can use Classic Shell or Start8 to get a proper Start Menu and Start Button, pick the one you prefer the most. There are some additional enhancements mentioned by BJFox which I haven't tried out yet.
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, programs and features, HP Photosmart AIO B210 Printer, uninstall.
Restart your computer.
Make sure the pritner was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
This gives you a clean start with the installation.
Download the drivers that KirkD suggested and install the drivers. You should get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)
Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications. If you did not install a virus program, then Windows Defender is the default virus program. Try reading...

Just purchased a Inspiron 5721 Laptop and now to install my printer. The printer; HP Photosmart Plus e-All-In-One S210 series, was purchased a few months ago before my other laptop (windows 7) died. Now my new laptop says NO can't use on Windows 8! Is there a way around this? Already had to buy new wireless mouse to work w/Windows ! Thanks from this sortta computer savvy senior.
I would suggest you to confirm the printer model number once again, is it HP Photo smart plus e-All-in-One Printer - B210a or S210.
If it’s B210a please click on the link mentioned below to install the drivers:
Please let me know if further help is required.
