My new Dell V305w printer worked ok for a few weeks, but is now unable to feed paper correctly. It spins and seems to have trouble pulling the paper down. Sometimes the paper goes down a few inches and the printer starts to print, but the paper is not far enough into the machine to be printed. The printer continues happily printing with no paper and then finishes printing but nothing comes out. Sometimes it says there is a paper jam. I pull out the partially inserted sheet of paper and try again. And again. And again. There is nothing obstructing the wheels that I can see. I am using regular printer paper. I have the same problem with envelopes. It seems like the envelope starts to feed and then stops, like the wheel does not catch it. Sometimes the envelope will go all the way through the printer, but the printing will be trailing off the leading edge of the envelope. It seems like the wheels are not pulling the envelope or sheet of paper through the machine.
Justo an old trick... Grab a couple of Q tips, and moisten them with rubbing alcohol, then try to clean the 2 gray rolls inside the paper tray that pull the paper when trying to print. Let the alcohol evaporate, and you are set to go. The alcohol revives the roll surface that was not working because of dust. Try to keep printer covered to avoid this from happening often. And there you go, quick and easy solution.
This sounds exactly like what mine is doing! Any luck with a solution? I was gonna take a hammer to mine but my wife thinks that's a bad idea...
It has now been six weeks and no one has offered any suggestions. I still have the problem and sometimes I think a hammer is not such a bad idea. I have found that it is pointless to feed just 1-2 sheets at a time. If I put a whole stack of papers in the feeder, it works more consistently, but still not very reliably. My tale of woe with Dell printers would take too long to recount, so let me just warn readers to steer clear of Dell printers. Their own support teams don't know how to set them up or repair wireless connection problems, but they will promise to fix it and waste hours and hours of your time on the phone and on line. And if they tell you to buy the new, improved V305w printer because it solved all the problems of the former version, just hang up the phone.
The only suggestion I could give you is to look where the paper leaves the tray to make sure there are no pieces from a paper jam. Some people even tried using a vacuum cleaner to try cleaning it out.
Other suggestion is to make sure you have the proper paper size selected.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have not found anything jamming the printer. The problem occurs at the start of printing when the roller is supposed to grab the sheet and pull it into the printer. It does not grab the page properly. The paper does not catch and move into the printer. It sometimes starts to move a little bit into the printer and seems to slip loose. Sometimes by tapping the paper, the printer will grab it. Sometimes having a lot of pages loaded into the paper bin will make it work. It seems to be a mechanical problem involving the friction necessary to pull the paper into the printer.
Yes, my printer is set for the correct size paper when this happens. The paper guides are aligned properly, too. I have seen this same problem with different paper sizes and with envelopes. The roller or device that pulls the paper into the printer does not make good contact with the paper at the outset of printing. Once the paper engages and printing starts, the paper usually feeds ok, although sometimes the printing starts with the paper only halfway into the printer and then what I get is printing in the wrong place on the page.
I actually have the Dell V305w... it is indeed sad that this is the "improved model". They finally helped me out and I just got a replacement!
I was completely amazed that Dell was helpful to me in this situation; they have been completely useless in trying to help me fix the router I got from them or figure out why my laptop won't connect with my network sometimes.
After doing some basic trouble shooting (checking for jams, checking connections, checking settings, and my personal favorite: turning it upside down and shaking it "vigorously" for 30 seconds) they decided it needed to be replaced. Luckily I'm still within my warranty period and I got my new printer pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I can't have it turned on or it causes my network to crash! Looks like another call to Dell is in the works!

Dump the printer. I had the same printer. It was so expensive to keep in ink that I quit using it and plugged in my older HP.

No, this is not the same problem. The problem mentioned above and referenced at
refers to a problem in the alignment of the ink cartridges. My problem concerns the inability of the printer to grab and advance a sheet of paper to start printing. I still have this problem. I have to make sure to insert a large quantity of paper or envelopes in order for the feeder to work. When it gets down to just a few sheets, it stops working. I only bought this printer at the recommendation of the Dell technician who assured me that with this new model they had fixed the problem with wireless communcation I experienced with the previous model, but the wireless communication problem still exists on this printer, too. I just have two problems with this new improved model instead of one problem with the older model. No more Dell printers for me.
You have described my issue with this Dell printer to a T! Now just wishing I had asked for a refund on this printer while it was an option!
I have exactly the same problem an have been fighting it for a couple of years now. This printer simply does not feed paper correctly. I find that I NEVER use it as a printer. I use the scan function but have totally given up on being able to print anything.
If this were a car, there would have been a recall. Wasted a lot of money on this printer and cartridges!!!
Yup, I had the same problem, and it worked great for me - if you think about it - lots of paper dust & a soft rubber roller is *bound* to have issues maintaining its grip. A quick wipe with rubbing alcogol / methylated spirits cleans any clinging dust, and re-sotens the rubber a little, enabling it to grab the paper much more effectively.
