Windows 7 & Dell V105 printer

This question is not answered

Hi All

As soon as I upgraded to Windows 7 32 bit recently, my V105 suddenly stopped working. I have carried out all of the usual - uninstalled/reinstalled printer, downloaded & installed the Windows 7 driver (R234388), uninstalled/reinstalled the printer again, checked firewall settings etc etc but still I get the message 'communication not available'. I know the printer & cable are fine as I have tested it on my XP laptop (incidentally I had to download the same driver - R234388?!).

The best Dell 'technical support' could come up with was to reinstall the whole OS, which seems ludicrously extreme...

Any help or ideas would be gratefully received

Thx

Neil

  •  shivy0,

It's there, are you using Internet Explorer to download the file?

How to by-pass the Dell Download Manager

What is a Dell Service Tag and how do I locate it?

  • When I enter the printer TAG and ask for hte driver, sends me to ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/printer/R264396.exe. And times out.

If I chose a 64bit version it strats downloading no problem.

Your file (R234388.exe) is different from the one the TAG number advises for Win7 32-bit (R264396.exe). Is it ok to install your driver ?

(I think I already did before, I installed a few versions when the good version did not work, but I'll try it again)

Now I clicked on the driver and on next page donwload it did download properly...maybe a link broken on the general driver's page.

Thank you. I'll try with the new version you sent and let u know. I also have snapshots of the screen about the instalation problem, but they are too big to attach here. let me know if you want to have a look.

  • I find this very strange ... dell's website is giving dfferent results on drivers each hour I go there - logged with the TAG number.

Earlier on this forum topic I donwloaded the drivers for 32bits and got these 2 different versions:

    win7 32bit version R264396.exe with 75.2MB

    Vista 32bit version R234388.exe with 77.2MB

    now only can get:

    Windows XP 32bit - http://ftp.us.dell.com/printer/R264396.exe - 75.2MB

    Windows Vista 32bit - http://ftp.us.dell.com/printer/R264396.exe - 75.2MB

    Windows 7 32bit - http://ftp.us.dell.com/printer/R264396.exe - 75.2MB

I've launched the R234388 which is well a installation driver for V105, but where did it come from ?

The 64 bit version is R264457.exe, which is working fine on my other 64bit laptop.

guess I'll have to try them all. what a waste of time for a printer that should be plug and play !

  •  shivy0,

I made this thread in November, 2009 and the drivers offered at that time were...

    Dell V105 All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Some drivers were then upgraded for Windows 7 to work with it. I am a Dell User, just like you, so it my drivers work, that's great, if there are problems with my drivers offered, please let me know and I'll search for newer ones.

Problems I have found are that people with a different language operating system, other than English(US) can have problems with installing the printer using the drivers from the website. If the computer is online and you install the printer with the printer disk, you have a better change of installing the printer.

  • I've read through this thread with great interest, since I tried to get a V105 to get to work with a dell inspiron zino hd, win 7 x64 german, sp1. I experienced the same problems:

    driver search by tag-#

    download and unpack

    install with the dell-application

As soon as the application prompted me to, I connected the printer via usb and the application congratulated me for having successfully installed the printer.

But already trying to print the testpage brings up an error-message regarding not being able to communicate with the device. In my case too, the scanning part worked, at least as far communication with the device goes.

What I also noticed and what struck me a bit odd is that in "devices and printers" the scanner and the printer seem to be "bundled" under one name and that it then shows V105 and V105 (Kopie1), where  the copy  is the printer and the original obviously the scanner (this just as a suggestion for future setup-routines).

The machine and printer I tried to get running together are not mine, so any testing of possible solutions will need some time.

Thanks in advance for the support, and of course also for all the support given so far.

    Best regards

    Martin, Cologne, Germany

  • Martin,

    Try going to

    C:\Program Files\Dell V105\Drivers

See if there is an English folder there. If yes, is there a German folder there? If not, then right click, left click new, new folder. Name the new folder German. Copy and paste everything that's in the English folder, then paste them to the German folder. Double click on the drivers and try the installation, it should work this time. The printer should work, but in English.
