Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller is disconnected from network. Brand New Laptop 15R

This question has suggested answer(s)

For few days this error is coming. The network LAN icon is yellow and only wireless connections are shown. Changed the network cable 3 tims.

If you switch laptop off and restart again it works. But not always. Somebody suggested remove the network card and try again. Did that and windows found the new hardware and worked for one day and then same. What could be causing it?

Should I call Dell Tech support?

Also want to see Restore the system to original setup. But F8 Never works. Tried Fn and F8, did not work.

  • Hi there

My apologies you are having trouble with your new system.

I am not sure if i understood your issue right, are you able to go online wired ? or does it get disconnected when you are online wired.

The wireless network connections will be shown if your wireless adapter is on. And you will have an amber dot on it, please confirm which type of icon are you referring to

With the ethernet cable plugged in are you seeing the 2nd image? If so you need to reinstall both the network controller and wireless adapter software.

And if you want to restore system to orginal factory settings, you need to keep tapping F8 rapidly the moment you start the system. and then select Repair your computer option.

Correct. I see the second sign with Amber Yellow image. If I click on the network icon then I can see all wireless networks. If I choose my Wireless routre I am able to connect to it. But I don't want to use wireless. I want to use wired network. There was the first sign on few occasion I have seen.

I will remove both network controller and when restart hope it will install them properly. I never had any problems with wireless adapter or connection.

About F8 I will check after this problem is resolved.

    Thanks

  • Try disabling the wireless first.

What is a Dell Service Tag and how do I locate it?

I already gone thru that part. Only problem was F8 does not work. I tried so many times.

I have done back up dvds with Dell DataSafe.

But  I will go thru that again.

    Thanks

  •  mjbad,

The Dell Factory image should be there unless you installed the operating system, yourself.

What virus program are you using?

Try running Finding System Information and remove your product ID and copy and paste it back here.

  • I have not installed OS. Its Factory installed.

Its Brand New 15R, 3 week old and I am using Dell installed McAfee software.

  • mjbad,

Since this is new, the recovery partition should work. Did you make the recovery disks with Dell DataSafe? They should also work. If these do not work, then I'd wait until Monday and see if Telson has any suggestions or if you'd need to contact Dell Tech Support. It has become a warranty issue. It should work.

Yes. I have made two sets with Dell DataSafe. One when installing the OS after unpacking and one yesterday.

  •

    mjbad,

F8 should work even if you do not have a recovery partition.

F8 Function is from the OS itself. If a Clean installation of the OS is done only the recovery partition vanishes and the Dell DataSafe Option would not be there in the repair tools. However one needs to go to Safemode anytime in the future.

Here are some things you should know when trying to access F8 Menu.

    • F8 MUST be tapped, not held down. (tapping slowly will not work, needs to be tapped fast)
    • F8 key MUST be tapped right when the system starts up, there is a small window (time frame) when this option works, that is right after the Dell logo and before the windows loading screen. Now this time frame would last only 1.5secs that is way its important to keep tapping right when you start the system as you should not miss it.

If you are unable to there is another method of initiating Factory reinstallation.

    • Open Dell data safe Local
    • On the left hand side you will see two options, Backup and restore, click on restore.
    • Once done, on the right hand side the first option would say restore to factory defaults.
    • Click on it and then you will have an option to restart.
    • Restart the system and you will be taken automatically to the restore utility.

As i stated earlier, F8 is a function of OS, of one is unable to get into this menu which can only mean two things.

    • Either its not done correctly OR The F8 key has gone bad.

Try these steps and let me know, I dont think you should do a PC Restore for the issue you have, If you are able to go online wired then all you need to do is disable the wireless adapter (Hit F2 once), and you should have the icon you are looking for.

  • This is what problem I faced. Connected 15R with wireless works OK.

Then connected LAN cable no go. I can not even see the LAN card. No Go.

These are r the icons I see.

This is after wireless router is disconnected and cable put in

About F8 key I tried and it goes to Windows Safe mode, Safe mode with newtorking

all that type of option. So I dont know if this the one to restore. I feel its different.

I don't think F8 key will be broken in Brand new Laptop.

  • Now I restarted PC and Network card is working fine. I am afraid If I call tech support  and they ask to restart then it will be OK and will be difficult to pinpoint the root cause.

If you connect the cable and disconnect the wireless thats the icon you see, have you tried disabling the wireless using the F2 key ?

In device manager right click on realtek and click on update device software.
