Inspiron N5010 Black screen

This question is not answered

Hello,

I've had my pc for about 2.5 years now (just over the waranty -_-"). The problem i'm having is that when i start up my computer, nothing appears on the screen. The computers turns on, the fans start blowing, it checks for a cd etc...
i've tried connecting it to an external monitor without succes. I've tried removing the battery and power supply for 15 minutes and then pushing down the power button for 30 secs to remove any battery power residue, yet nothing worked.

It has had this issue for some time, often it would come on eventually after an hour or so, but it's been about 4 hours so i've given up.

Is this something i can fix by myself? Or do i need to take it to a shop?

Cheers for answering

  • Hi Bastijn,

Thank you for the trouble shooting steps tried. I suspect the issue is with the screen.

However to confirm that I suggest that you run a test on the display. To test the display shut the system down, next press and hold the letter ‘D’ on the keyboard and press the power button. This will initiate diagnostics on the display. Check the status of the display and please revert.

  • hey Sujatha K,

thanks for the quick reply, i've tried 3 times to follow your instructions, but still nothing happens on the screen. So basically it's the same whether i hold the D button while starting or not.

    thanks

    Bastijn

  • Hi Bastijn,

I recommend you to shut the system down, remove the battery, and disconnect the Ac Adapter. Now press and hold the power button and connect the Ac adapter or press Fn key on the keyboard and power on the computer to launch diagnostics. Let me know the status of this diagnostics and also if the system beeps.
