Dell Vostro 2420 Touchpad is driving me NUTS!

This question is not answered

Hi, I purchased a Dell Vostro 2420 extended warranty laptop around 4 months ago. I have an irritating problem that I don't know how to deal with. The touchpad occasionally refuses to respond. The mouse pointer freezes, or moves very slowly and erratically. Friends who bought the 2520 model have also been reporting the same issue. They tell me it happens when they use the laptop for extended periods of time and the touchpad slightly overheats. I think the it's the same case with me as well.

I've updated to the latest drivers and i've spoken to customer care about this issue. Since it's not possible to replicate the problem when needed, they say that the touchpad is fine and responded by tweaking sensitivity settings.

Anyone else with the same issue, either on the 2420 or 2520 models? Mine came with Win8.

Did you uninstall and reinstall the Touchpad drivers and check? If not please follow the below mentioned steps:

    3. Right click "Dell Touchpad", click "Uninstall", and ensure to check the box “Delete driver software for this device”.

    7. Select Download file and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
    8. Restart the computer and check the functionality of the touchpad.

  • Hi Nikhil,

Thank you for help. I have done what you have suggested, ie uninstalled and reinstalled the touch pad drivers. I'll let you know if the issue is resolved over the next few days.

    Thank you.

  • Followed the above steps.. And the problem continues!.. Which is that the mouse pointer becomes slow and crawls around for a minute or so and then resumes normal sensitivity! I am running on the latest chipset drivers and bios as well.... Call this be a hardware or design issue?

  • Hi gkk84,

The problem could be with the hardware of the touchpad, however in order to diagnose the issue, let us try connecting an external mouse to the laptop and disable the touchpad and check the functionality of the cursor.

If the problem does not appear with the external mouse connected, the issue is with the touchpad which needs to be replaced. If the computer is under warranty, I would be glad to arrange a service on the computer. Check warranty status: http://dell.to/13VPd97

Please private message me the service tag, registered owners name and address.

To private message me please click my user name and click Start conversation.

In case of expired warranty scenario, we would not be able to extend warranty entitled services.

If the warranty on the computer has expired, below link would help you in contacting expired warranty services (this is for US based customers): http://dell.to/VPYT4T

    Awaiting your response!

    Thanks & Regards,
