Studio 1558 laptop wont connect to internet driver issue

This question is not answered

I am restoring my niece's Studio 1558. I restored windows 7 64 bit and installed drivers on resource cd in correct order. Laptop has a Intel wifi link 6250). When I installed the driver it also installed wiMax software. When I attempt to connect to internet wirelessly, a dialogue states that no wiMax connections available. It does show the regular wireless connections. The driver on the resource disk keeps installing the wimax feature with the driver with no option to prevent wimax from installing as well. I went to drivers and download page on Dell support page to download latest driver, R242648, but it does not install. I did follow installation instructions. Anyone know what might be the problem? I uninstalled wireless drivers, and in device manager, there is a yellow exclamation under "Other Devices," next to " Network Controller" (is the wireless driver I uninstalled) and "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System" (which I have no idea what it is). Any feedback would be appreciated. There is no factory image on hard drive to revert to as it was formatted by my niece.

  • Hi loops08,

Please reply with the Device Instance ID of the Device which has an exclamation mark. To get the Device Instance ID:

    1. Open the “Unknown Device” (the device with yellow exclamation).
    2. Click the “Details” tab.
    3. Select Device Instance Path or Device Instance Id (whichever is available for your version of Windows) from the drop down box.
    4. Make a note of the Device Instance Path or Device Instance ID and add this in your reply.
    Thanks & Regards

  • I tried both installations. The same network controller driver you listed was already installed. I reinstalled just in case. The Centrino driver is the same as in my first post. When I attempt to install it, it says that this cannot be installed on this system.

  • This was already installed. I reinstalled it just in case. I don't see an option to attach screen shot.

    Device manager looks like this...

    Network Adapters

      >Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (this is working fine just listing for reference)

    Other Devices (Problems)

      >(!)Intel Centrino Advanced-N+ WiMax 6250

      >(!)Network Controller

  • Both pertain to your Wi-fi device....at least that's what the Vendor ID and Device ID are pointing to.

    Vendor ID 8086 is Intel

    0087 is Centrino Advanced N 6250

    0188 is the Wi-max driver

  • Try these drivers

    ftp://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER96016M/2/R243815.exe

  • I installed this driver. It installs WiMax and only searches for WiMax networks. It does not show regular wireless networks. I don't understand, the wireless network was working fine before restore. Didn't even see WimMax. Still cant connect wirelessly to internet. I believe WiMax is for broadband. Is there a driver that doesn't incluce WiMax? There are braod band drivers install, too. Should I uninstall those? This is device manager after install.

  • It would help if you posted a screenshot of this

However, right click the Other Device - Network Controller and choose Update Driver. Click Browse My Computer for Driver Software and navigate to where the Intel Centrino Advanced N driver files have been unpacked, usually this is C:\dell\Drivers\R243815\Drivers

    Click Next

  • How do I attach screen shot? It will not allow me to paste in this box. When I tried suggestion above it said Windows was unable to install network controller. Windows could not find driver software for this device. It was the correct driver path, it just not recognizing it for some reason.

  • On the screen you want to take screen shot of press control and prtscn (print screen key)  paste the image into paint or similar program. Crop image if needed. Save image as JPEG. Compose post using rich format. Click add picture icon. Browse to saved image. Click upload.
