XPS L502X Battery

Hi, I own a Dell XPS L502X laptop for almost a year now and in the past two weeks I've noticed that the battery drastically dropped it's runtime from around 5 hours to barely 2 hours... I've checked the health of my battery by pressing and holding the LED button and no light appears (which should mean according to Dell's F.A.Q. that the battery is in good condition, although more than 50% of it's runtime is lost).

I'm using this laptop mainly for listening to music, internet, etc, and also for a few demanding tasks (I work with Audio Workstations), but since I'm only a student not really a lot of heavy use for it yet. I'm really worried because the drop was all of a sudden from one day to another, not gradually as I would expect. I understand that batteries are not supposed to last for as long as the system does, but it hasn't been a year from the purchase (around 10 and a half months). 

Any help and comments would be appretiate. :)

    Welcome to the Community,

    The Battery operating time is largely determined by the number of times it is charged. After hundreds of charge and discharge cycles, batteries lose some charge capacity (battery health). This means that a battery can show a charged status, but maintain a reduced charge capacity.

    Try checking the battery health under battery meter(Control Panel,Power options or right click Battery icon on the taskbar).

    If it shows the battery is functioning normally, then there is no functional problem with the battery.

    I just checked the battery health and it says that is working normally, but I really doubt that I charged the battery that many times so that it looses half of it's charge capacity. Sometimes I work connected to the AC power and some other times I use it normally (that is, disconnected) depending if I have to go somewhere, but nothing out of the regular use for a laptop really.

    What most bothers me is that it happened suddenly, and it is a noticable lost of it's runtime (as I said, more than 50%...).

    Battery operating time varies depending on operating conditions.Your system model either comes with 6 cell or 9 cell battery.On a new 6 cell battery you may get a back up of 2 1/2 hrs under normal operating condition and on 9 cell you may get 50% more back up.

    Thank you for the tips on increasing battery life, some of them I'm already following even without intending to do so, such as lowering screen brightness, and I usually don't work with CD/DVD anymore. When not in use, I keep my laptop on a case all the time but maybe should I try clenaning the batteries contacts anyway?

    The laptop came with a 6 cell battery (56 Whr), and worked perfectly up to 5 hours from the purchase until now. I just started the computer, checked my email and as I'm writing this post is at 74% power: 1 h 11 min left...

    Not sure if cleaning the battery contacts would help and I am afraid there is nothing much you can do if the battery is not holding the charge,except for trying the suggested tips on my previous reply to increase battery life.

    I'll try that from now on to keep the remaining battery life as it is right now and for future products... but I must say it is disappointing that I can't barely use my laptop as portable computer anymore, specially for such an expensive product, due to battery failure within a year from the purchase.

    According to my warranty status I'm still covered until 7/2/2013. If there is no other way to fix this problem, who could I contact to talk this through?

    As per the findings(battery health and LED indicators) your system battery is in good condition  and cannot be replaced under warranty.All rechargeable batteries wear out with time and use. As the battery begins to reach the end of its life, you will notice a decline in the runtime of the battery.

    Even if you speak with phone support representative,they will not be able to help you get the battery replaced.However if you wish to talk to a technical support representative you may call 18006249896(US region).

    Can you give me a contact number for Europe? I bought this laptop in Spain but I don't live there anymore. At least I would like to try and speak to someone, just to make extra sure about the replacement.
