The adapter is plugged into a good plug, all connections are good. Blue LED light comes on when the adapter is plugged into the wall. However, when I plug the adapter into my XPS 17 (L702S) the blue LED light goes off.... Any idea where to start troubleshooting this?

The power supply is shorting out when you plug it into the DC socket. The DC input socket is faulty, and it can not be repaired easily. If under warranty, contact Dell Service. Depending on your model, either the power board (moderate cost) or the mother board (expensive - ~$400) need to be replaced. Check the repair manual on the Dell site to see if you have a separate power board or not.
There are some companies that will try to repair the power connector. Do a web search. Some will not charge you for the repair if it is unsuccessful and you send them just the motherboard. If you send the entire laptop, you will pay something because they have to dissemble and reassemble the laptop.
