M5010 7 beep death knell

This question is not answered
I closed the lip on my laptop last night to put it into sleep mode. When I tried loading up this morning I got the seven beeps. I've tried discharging the battery but to no avail. I bought this laptop in march 2011 so it's had a good life judging by the standard on here. Is there anything you can recommend that doesn't involve paying out to rectify a manufacturing fault that dell are well aware of?!

  • Hi rstone1980,

7 beeps on the Dell Inspiron M5010 laptop means it’s a processor failure. Please send me a private message with the computer's service tag. To send a private message, click on my name and select start conversation.

Also, I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if you are able to switch on the computer.

    1. Switch off the computer.
    2. Disconnect the power cable from the wall.
    3. Disconnect all the peripherals from the tower
    4. Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
    5. Then connect back all the peripherals and check if you are able to switch on the computer.

  • Hi bob butler,

Check if the AC adapter is getting detected in BIOS. Follow the steps below.

Tap ‘F2’ as soon as the computer starts to enter the BIOS

Please ensure that you are able to see the headings ‘General, under the system information check the ac adapter is detected. Also check the battery health meter and get back to me with the status. If possible try with a known good adapter and check if the battery is charging fine.

    Thanks and regards,
