I just got the XPS 12 which I plugged into an external Dell monitor using an adaptor and it works fine.
I also changed the Power setting so that "When I close the lid nothing happens". This is very useful because I can do work on the ultrabook while plugged into an external monitor without having to have the lid open.
But the issue is that when I try to restart the ultrabook it starts beeping which never stops and the machine never actually restarts. To stop the beeping and actually restart the ultrabook I have to open the lid and click on a keyboard key. This is a major issue and it's very annoying.
How can I solve this issue?
Welcome to the Community. Does it beep when its not connected to an external monitor?
Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated.
When it's not connected to the external monitor it does not beep when I try to restart it.
So to reiterate the issue:
The laptop is plugged into an external Dell monitor via the Dell adaptor.
The Power setting has been changed to "When I close the lid nothing happens". This is so I don't need to have the lid open while I am using the laptop.
When I try to restart the laptop it starts beeping and it does not restart until I open the lid.
Let us know which Dell Adapter you are using, or if you could add a pic of it would be great.
I am using the Dell adapter that came with the laptop: DP/N "0JG7P4"
I recommend you uninstall your video drivers and reinstall it back from the support site. To uninstall, click on start, right click on computer, click on properties, click on device manager, click on the symbol next to display adapters, right click on Intel HD Graphics and click on uninstall, click ok to confirm. Restart your system, update the Bios First, and then the Video Driver. Use the below link to download them.
I have updated the system with all the latest Dell drivers and the beeping still occurs when I try to restart the laptop.
Do you have any other ideas that I could try before I return the laptop and get my money back?
Let me know the beep pattern or the number of beeps you hear when you power on, when its connected to the monitor.
The beeping carries on until I open the lid and slide the power button after which time the beeping stops and the laptop actually restarts.
The second issue is that after I open the lid to bring the laptop out of Sleep mode then nothing appears on the external monitor until I unplug the monitor cable and plug it back in.
We have just purchased a new XPS and have exactly the same problems as above. We are trying to connect a Dell monitor and using the Dell adapter that came with.
