Vostro 3360: Group of 3 quick buttons don't work

This question is not answered
Hi,

I've found that these buttons don't work anymore.
Previously they worked properly but last week I've found that any of them does not work.
When I press each of them there is no any action: no action, no dialog window, no backlighting, nothing.
I don't know what is it.

OS: Windows 7 x64 SP1 with the latest updates.
Other info: during my using of this laptop I have not had any damage or falling.
Laptop: Vostro 3360 (<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>).

I will be grateful for any help.
Thanks

  • Hi Vyacheslav,

It seems that ‘Dell Quickset’ is not installed on the computer. You can install it from the link http://dell.to/XovHA8

    • Click on ‘Download File’
    • Check on the radio box ‘Single-file download’
    • Click on ‘Continue’
    • Choose the location as desktop,
    • Click on ‘Save’, save the file on the desktop
    • Double click on the file; choose ‘Continue’
    • Click 'OK' on ‘Select the folder’ where you want to unzip the files (make a note of the folder location)
    • Click ‘Yes’
    • Click ‘Ok’, follow the on screen instructions and install the file
    • Restart the computer

In case you do not get prompts on the screen for instructions, then

    • Browse to the folder where the files were unzipped and locate the setup file
    • Double click on the file; follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation

Please reply if you have any questions.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Hi Appu,

Thanks for the quick answer, but it's not helped me. I have already installed the Dell Quickset and it's work correctly.

My problems is only with 3 buttons which I described above. Other multimedia buttons work fine.

  • Hi Vyacheslav,

Thank you for the response. The 3 Quick Launch buttons are controlled by Dell Quickset. I would recommend you to uninstall 'Dell Quickset' from Control Panel and re-install it.

Please ensure that after you've uninstalled Dell Quickset from the computer, restarted the computer, then install it from the link mentioned in my previous post.

Please reply if you have any questions.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • I've done all your instructions: uninstall Quickset, reboot laptop, install Quickset again, reboot laptop, but finally I have the same result: 3 Quick Launch buttons don't work

  • Hi Vyacheslav,

I would suggest you to perform System Restore. Here are the steps:

    • Click on 'Start'
    • Click on 'All Programs' then click 'Accessories'
    • Click on 'System Tools'
    • Click on the 'System Restore'
    • Then click 'Next' on the "Restore system files and settings" window
    • Then choose the restore point that you want to use(choose a date when the Quick Launch buttons were working)
    • After that click 'next' to continue
    • Then click 'Finish' on the "Confirm your restore point" window to start the System Restore
    • Then Click 'Yes' to the once started, System Restore cannot be interrupted. Do you want to continue? dialog box.
    • System Restore will now restore Windows 7 to the state that was recorded in the restore point.
    • Immediately after logging in to Windows 7 after the reboot, you should see a message that System Restore completed successfully.
    • Click Close, restart the computer and check if the issue still persists

  • Vyacheslav,

See if this works. Pres the Windows key and the x keys at the same time. You should see the Windows Mobility center.

In the Finction Key Row, make sure it's selected as Multimedia key

  • Hi Appu,

I have the latest update for my BIOS, A13 version but it's not helped me.

Also I don't have the previous system restore. So, I can't roll back.

  • Both of multimedia and functional behaviours work fine. But any of them don't solves my problems.

  • Hi Vyacheslav,

Thank you for the response. I would suggest you to perform PC restore, which means taking the computer back to factory defaults to eradicate any software issues.
Note: We would advise you to take a complete backup of your data (pictures, music files, videos, documents and applications) as this step leads to complete data loss. Please disconnect any external peripherals as well.

    To perform PC restore:

    • Restart PC, press <F8> 3-4 times when the Dell logo appears.
    • Advanced Boot Options menu appears, ‘Repair your Computer' is highlighted, press Enter. (Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice)
    • Windows is loading files screen appears. Wait for it to load.
    • System Recovery Options prompt appears. Specify the language and keyboard input that you want, and then click ‘Next’.
    • Log in as a user who has administrative credentials; select the username from the drop-down list, type the password and click OK.
    • Choose a Recovery Tool Window appears, select Dell Data Safe Restore and Emergency Backup.
    • The Welcome screen will show 2 options; Restore computer and preserve my new or changed files and Select other System Backup and more options. Select the second option (Select other System Backup and more options) and click Next.
    • The next window shows these options; Backup Files and folders and Restore my computer. Select ‘Restore my computer’.
    • Select the Factory Image and click ‘Next’.
    • The next window shows 2 options; 'Preserve new or changed files before restoring to selected System Backup' and 'Restore without preserving new or changed files'. Select the second option (Restore without preserving new or changed files) and click Next.
    • A prompt appears stating that your computer is about to be restored all data currently on your computer will be deleted and replaced with your selected Full System Backup. If an Emergency File & Folder Backup was created, it will still be saved at the location you selected. Click 'Yes, continue' and click Next.
    • PC restore will initiate. Once done, click Restart.
    • Follow the onscreen instructions to create a user account
