Inspiron N5030 Windows 7 failed to start

My Dell Inspiron N5030 has been experiencing problems recently. More recently, my computer crashed. I tried to boot it up again after a couple of minutes, and it said "Windows failed to start". I'm used to seeing this, so I pressed "Started Windows normally". It showed the boot up screen, kept the picture of the windows logo, then blue screened, and went back to the "Windows failed to start" message again. So, I went to "Repair Windows" in the BIOS screen, and nothing came up for hours. So, I reset, pressed F12, went to the BIOS, and went to "Diagnostics". It ran some tests, and then a little chime came on and said there was an error with my hard drive, error code 2000-0146. What does this mean? I recently replaced my ram from factory given 3 gigs of ram, to the maximum 8 gigs.

    The Error 2000-0146 doesn’t means that the hard drive has gone bad, but it is going bad. Error code: 2000-0146 (DST Log contains previous errors) refers to previous errors in the hard drive which might not really be a hardware failure. Please try the following steps:

    -- Reset the BIOS to the defaults for these error codes. For more information on resetting the BIOS to the defaults, refer to the Resetting the System Setup (BIOS) to its Default Settings section. 
    -- After resetting the BIOS to the defaults, re-run the diagnostics if you receive the same error code, follow the next step.

    -- Re-seat the Hard Drive.
    Before performing the steps, read and follow the safety instructions in Dell Knowledge Base Article: 
    "Precautionary Measures for Personal Safety"
    Remove any and all power sources Including but not limited to: AC Adapter, Battery, or Desktop Power Cord, before you remove or reinstall an item in your computer.
    Please see the 
    Service manual for instructions on how to remove and replace the Hard Drive. 
    After re-seating the Hard Drive re-run the diagnostics and check the functionality. If you get the same error code, the hard drive needs to be replaced.

    **Note: If the computer is able to boot into Windows you should back up your important information and files, for information on how to do this, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article

  • Hello,

    I tried reseting the BIOS and nothing happened. Then, I re-seated the hard drive. no dice. Finally, I went to Best Buy and got a new hard drive, same as my old one, with windows already on it. Still wouldn't boot up.

    Help?

    So once you have installed the new hard drive, what exactly happens when you try to turn on the computer. I would also suggest try running the Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA / ePSA) Diagnostics and check if you get any error message.
