My wife was surfing the net and watching TV last night when her Inspiron M5030 got the blue screen of death. There have been no other errors or performance issues until now. When she tried to reboot, the laptop just gave 7 loud beeps over and over. Followed the suggestions found elsewhere in this forum, disconnected the power cord, removed battery, held start button down for 30 secs, tried to reboot, but got the same result.
After browsing this forum I've found a lot of people have had the 7 beeps on start up issue with the M5030. I've had really good experience with Dell over the past 8 years, so it's sad to see so many bad comments about them here. In my company, if there's a known problem you just do the right thing, period.
The warranty is up so does anyone have any suggestions??

The 7 Beeps on the computer indicate Processor or a motherboard failure. I request you to send me the system service tag through private message I will check and let you know what needs to be done.

I am having the same issue with the same model laptop. 7 beeps at boot up and nothing on the display. The warranty on my laptop expired sometime i April. Is there some fix for this issue? Thanks
My wife's M5030 just developed the same problem, two weeks after the warranty expired. I tried to chat and email, but the system will not let me because the warranty for the service tag is expired. My wife called and was told the problem was expired drivers ???? and for a hefty fee he would upgrade the drivers ???? This is my second Dell to fail within weeks of the warranty ending. The first one I bit the bullet and replaced with another Dell, but I'm not going to do that again. I currently have six Dell laptops in my house, and five Dell desktops. Traditionally I've had good luck with Dells, but in the past couple of years I've started having problems. Any suggestions?

I bought a Dell M5030 for my son as he went off to Uni - 15 months later (just before Christmas) it got the 7 beeps of death.
The service tag revealed it was out of warranty - DELL as usual are very helpful and are more than happy to sell me an extended warranty - but to be honest you are better off putting the money towards a new laptop.
What I have read through many forums is that they can replace the cpu and motherboard, but the M5030 is so poorly designed and put together, its odds on that the fault will reappear in a matter of weeks.
DELL is very much aware of this problem - with the amount of complaints relating to the same 7 beeps issue it (in my opinion) can only be a design fault - I read on an earlier thread that the M5030 is about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike - a very apt analogy !
I have a small business and have 10 DELL laptops mostly from the Vostro range (pus some desktops), and to be honest I'm not very impressed as I have had a problem with 4 of the laptops - they are not often used so that’s a 40% fail rate - I'm renewing/upgrading later this year but will be giving DELL a wide birth.
My advice would be to bin the M5030 - reinvest any money you would spend on a warranty and buy a new one from PC-World (as there about the only High Street chain left).
I am having the same problem as well. I had a message earlier about my battery dying and now my screen is black and my computer keeps beeping 7 times
She called me tonight to tell me the laptop won't boot and is emitting 7 beeps. I looked up the various beep patterns listed on the Internet but there is no pattern, just seven beeps. Looking at this part of the web site, this series seemed to identify the same problem.

What are the options???
Request you to follow the below steps:
(1) Turn off the computer.
(2) Remove all the external peripherals like battery, AC Adaptor, Flash drives, etc.
(3) Now press and hold the power button for 30sec it releases the static on the computer.
(4) Turn on the computer.
If the computer still beeps 7 times then the processor or the motherboard might have failed. I request you to send me the system service tag through private message along with Account holder name, address, phone number and email address. I will check and let you know what needs to be done.
Dead Inspiron M5030 for months, out of warranty, I power up, I get seven beeps, and a black screen, and I had given up on it, as I did not want to pay for repairs. I was recently researching a cure for a dead XBox360 RROD problem, and thought I would try the most recommended RROD cure, a graphics problem, to my M5030, which also had a graphics problem. My M5030 is now back up, burning in for hours, and fully functional. I used an Ace Hardware model 20176 Heat Gun, 750/1000F (cost about $20 when I bought it) , and aluminum foil. I removed the MB, (see Youtube), and the CPU. I covered all of the MB except the graphics chip and the Southbridge chip in 3 layers of aluminum foil, I heated both chips for 3 minutes on high (1000F), moving gun constantly, I let the MB cool for 15 minutes. I re-assembled the computer, and it is now working flawlessly, for 4 hours on a burn-in program. It was free, so far it is working, hope this helps someone!
I work with an infusion pharmacy. We have long suggested that our employees use Dell laptops because of our past experiences with great performance from those computers. 8 of our employees purchased the Inspiron M5030 because of its reasonable price tag. 4 of them have since had the same 7 beep issue (and all occurred beyond the warranty date). I personally have not contacted Dell but two of my employees did so and got the same canned response. We paid for new laptops for those employees ... and they were not Dell laptops. I never, ever thought I would prefer any other company above Dell. But; when you sell a product you know has major issues and then want to charge an arm and a leg to repair it, it will only hurt your business. I will no longer recommend Dell to anyone. Just my personal opinion!
Stevenrn - Same experience, same canned response with a $400 repair quote. Spoke to a supervisor and got it reduced to $190. Have 4 Dells at home and we have over 100 at my company, will never recommend Dell to anyone again. If the M5030 was a car, it would have been recalled and the repairs done for nothing by now. The people I spoke with were nice enough, but there is no accountability from Dell for the poor design of the heat sink/fan setup in this laptop, which I think is the root cause of the problem.
