  • Hi,

    Thanks for contacting the community.

I’m sorry to hear about that please try to follow the below mentioned steps that might help you.

I would suggest you to remove the battery & disconnect the AC Adapter from the system and hold the power button down for 20 seconds, to discharge “Static Flea Power”, after that connect AC Adaptor and battery and restart your machine.

I would suggest you to check the system in Safe Mode with Networking, follow the below mentioned steps:

    • Restart the computer.
    • Tap <F8> during startup until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
    • Press <Down Arrow> until Safe Mode with Networking is highlighted, and then press <Enter>.

In the issue still persist in safe mode as well would request you to run dell diagnostics Turn on the system, press <F12> at the initial Dell logo screen, and select Diagnostics from the boot menu.

In case issue still persists please provide me the Service Tag or the Express Service Code in a private message only.

Please reply if you have any further questions.

    Thanks & Regards

  • Hi Prateek

I will reply  with my info.  I cant even find where to remove the battery.  I am usually really good with computers and this ultrabook is just making me crazy right now.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

I apologize for the inconvenience you are facing.

Also, I would like to inform you that battery is not a customer replaceable unit on this laptop. We have to open the entire keyboard base door to remove the battery.

Let’s try to boot the system in Safe Mode with Networking and check whether it’s working or not. To boot in Safe Mode follow the below mentioned steps:

    • Restart the computer.
    • Tap <F8> during startup until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
    • Press <Down Arrow> until Safe Mode with Networking is highlighted, and then press <Enter>.

If issue still persists please try to run Dell diagnostics, to run Dell diagnostics turn on the system, press <F12> at the initial Dell logo screen, and select Diagnostics from the boot menu.

Also, try to boot the system in BIOS and check whether hard drive is detected or not (see the below image), to boot in BIOS please follow the below mentioned steps:

    1)     Turn on the system; Press <F2> at the initial Dell logo screen to enter System Setup.

    2)     Also, load system BIOS to default. Press F9 to load default and press enter. Press f10 to save and exit.

Please reply if you have any further questions.

    Thanks & Regards

  • same problem here, I have four such machines in production....working to return/exchange them now....unfortunate experience

  • Purchased Inspiron 14z Ultrabook, lovely piece of kit, so far all ok. I have had Dell computers for years I went. online to purchase spare battery for Ultrabook, apparently there there are none made and advertised on the Dell website, only adapters shown.

My supplier cannot help me, can this be true, if so I would not have purchased it, this should have been made clear to purchasers when item advertised.

Whoever heard of not being able to purchase a spare battery for this piece of kit, am taking advice form consumer protection.

Sad really, Dell is a good company, think twice about buying from Dell again.

Note: When i Press F8 with initial start up, system still stays at Dell Logo and not appear any other screen to start the system with Safe mode.

  • Hi, Prateek,

I bought a Dell Inspiron 14z 5423 a couple of weeks ago.  Due to the holidays, today was the second time I turned on my ultrabook, but it just stayed on the Dell sign.  Nothing happened when pressing F8, I've done the diagnostics twice, and when rebooting, the same thing happens again.  I've also tried to boot the system in BIOS, same thing happens again!!!  I'm desperate, I live in Salzburg, and I have no idea what to do next!  I'm writing, of course, in another laptop, is there anything else I can try???

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hi Claudia,

I had similar problem for my new 14Z 5423, now it got resolved by Dell support, try the below steps

    1. First run the Diagnostics test, once everything passed OK then try below options

    2. Boot the system with Changes in  the BIOS setting

    a) change the "Secure Boot" option to be "Disabled"

    b) Save the changed setting

    c) Press F9 for Default option (system Default)

    d) now exit the BIOS with starting the System.

  • Oh gosh, thanks so much for posting this, I was about to give up on my inspiron and return it. Now I don't have to! thank you thank you!!
