Inspiron 17R N7110

This question is not answered

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 17R N7110 (Core i7/8GB/W7 Pro64) back in April. The laptop failed to power up in September, and after hours on the phone with Dell technicians trying to figure out why it wouldn't power up (repetitive exercises in pressing the power button with the battery in/out, and the power supply plugged in/unplugged) they finally agreed to send a return box. I sent the laptop back to Dell and received it in early October with a new motherboard. I was concerned about the timing because I was getting ready to ship out to Japan. My fears were allayed as I received it just in time and I was able to bring it with me to Japan. About a week and a half ago it started exhibiting similar issues. It started by not powering up after being transported in my laptop backpack.  Pressing the power button will not power up the machine. I unplug it, remove the battery, and remove the memory, and let it sit for a while -sometimes 30 minutes, sometime for hours. I will sometimes do this repeatedly and then it will mysteriously work fine. I ran the diagnostics program and even the extended one and they always come back fine. Now that I am in Japan I don't know how I am going to be able to send it back to the states especially with the USPS ban on mailling lithium batteries to APO/FPO. Does anyone know if Dell has a repair center in Okinawa? Please advise. I am getting tired of messing with this computer and I am considering just buying a new HP or Toshiba. HELP!

BTW I bought my wife an Inspiron N1510 and it had issues within the first 2 weeks then it was fine. Our Inspiron mini 1012's are *AWESOME* though.

  • My warranty is active on my laptop until April 2013. However it would be difficult to ship it back to Texas again to have it repaired especially with the USPS ban on shipping lithium batteries to APO/FPO addresses. Is there a Dell authorized repair facility in Japan? My service tag is <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>
