Okay, so all was working fine until today, my webcam has stopped working, When i boot Dell Webcam Central i get a message at the bottom stating "No supported webcam connected".
Video chats on MSN and facebook do not work, it's like the webcam no longer exists.
I think it was caused by some other webcam software, which i've since uninstalled.
I've tried reinstalling the "Quanta H.264 Integrate Webcam Rev: A00" driver from the resource disk - it did not work.
I've tried to use system restore to restore to a time i KNOW the webcam was working, it did not work.
...And then, i encounted all the problems with the dell website...
I was trying to find the executable to reinstall Webcam Central to see if that had any effect, Went to the "Download Factory Installed Software (My Dell Downloads)" section of the website, and i get this message:
Please proceed to register your system by
clicking "Register New System". Registration will allow us to display
the software entitled for download. You will be automatically registered
after your click "allow" on the service tag scanning utility.
I tick the box and click Register System - Nothing happens. It just stays on the same page. I thought this was because i was in Firefox so i tried IE... same problem. Except this time IE has an error on page.
So... i tried emailing dell support... yet ANOTHER error:
Error determining system information. Please try again later.
I try to use the live chat... guess what...!

Anyway, end of that rant! How do i fix my webcam problem?
If you go to Device manager, imaging devices, does it show there?
If yes, right click on it, then left click, uninstall.
Restart your computer. See if it reinstalls.

PudgyOne, I already fixed my problem and replied to this thread saying how i fixed it :-)
Sorry, I must have read the post wrong.
I did try system restore on several occasions but it did not restore. The message that restore gave was along the lines that a file couldn't be restored and that that may have been the result of a an anti-virus program. I turned off ant-virus but kept getting the same message on subsequent attempts using different restore points. Never had this type of problem with good old XP. Somehow in all this mish mash of problems the printer spooler uninstalled itself, too. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
The issue presented here, which i am also experiencing is one of a driver issue. Whereby I uninstalled the drivers and did the re installation, at times in the Device Manager under imaging devices an exclamation mark would be on my webcam. What seems to happen is if the webcam is initiated by one program, after a short while the cam freezes and the on light stays, and to access it i have to restart. I have since swapped out the drivers for a Microsoft Webcam driver and it has been working, if i switch back i have the same issue.
