I just replaced the battery in my Inspiron B120. I was told to condition the battery by letting it run out and then charging it fully three times. On the second time of charging it I noticed the battery light starting rapidly flashing orange while it was still plugged in. It was solid green to begin with (per the manual), then flashing green (also per the manual), but then started flashing orange. I unplugged it and it stopped. It had charged the battery to 98% when I turned the computer on, so it seems that it's properly charging. I never had the orange light come on with my first battery, this is completely new and I have not been able to find any answer to why it's doing it. The manual indicates that it should flash orange when the battery is low and not plugged in. For me, the computer is plugged in and charging and the orange light comes on.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Is there something wrong with the new battery I bought?
Unplug your power adapter and remove your battery from its slot. Once done, press and Hold the Power button on your laptop for a minimum 30 seconds.
afterwards re-insert your 'battery only' without connecting the adapter and power on your laptop. This will take care of any static build up in your system.
This fixed 3/4 amber 1 white issue for me!
I have a similar problem.
The battery on my XPS 15z suddenly stopped charging two weeks ago, and now the battery light has started flashing orange.
I am using the original battery from Dell, that came with my laptop when I bought it 1 1/2 years ago. I have the AC adapter pluged in, and when I unplug it my computer shuts down.
Tip for new batteries
I bought a new battery, shut down my computer, removed the old battery and installed the new one. When I started the computer, I too had the orangey-yellow flashing battery indicator. But, I rebooted my computer, removed the new battery and put it back in and the battery is now working normally. I've read on Amazon reviews that this has solved others' problems with new batteries too.
i unplugged the battery and plug again, its stop blinking and start charging the battery
I also have the same problem - Amber light beings, battery indicator shows full but when I unplug the laptop it goes off..!!

My laptop is nearly 3 years old and I still use the original battery. Can someone help me.
I have a brand new M6800 right out of the box (from Dell) and have the same problem, 3 quick orange blinks followed by a long white blink. There was a error reported once of a non-Dell power brick. I swapped it out with the one that came with the docking station, no change (with blink code). Diagnostics show no faults.
Looks like a job for the Dell repair service.
Thanks for the info about flashing yellow. But what does flashing orange indicate? Is it normal?
I had the same issue. Upon booting my computer I got a message saying the battery was no longer charging so I needed to update the bios driver. I did that and it started charging again. Google bios driver update for whichever your computer model and download the update. After you run it and accept the terms of service, it will update automatically and you should be able to charge again. I know this is six years old but this info is for anyone who is currently having this issue. You may not need to replace the battery at all as I thought I might have to.
This information helped me a lot..at my job working on my boss' wife's laptop even though we are a law firm and I am NOT an IT Tech! I know my way around a computer and the terminology as well as how to Google things which is how I came across your answer. Thank you so much!
