LiteOn DVD 16x

  • My LiteOn DVD 16x is perfectly reading Audio, CD and CDR/W, but as soon as I insert a DVD, it does not accept the DVD disks; the green light runs for a while and if I go to explorer, he does not see anything in the drive- letter.
Tried with other PC, system (ME and Win 2000 and DVD- software). Also upgraded the firmware from dell.
    What can it be ?

Do you mean that you tried the DVD movie in another PC and two different operating systems, or did you try the DVDROM drive in another PC? If you tried the movie elsewhere, did it play normally?

There are currently two firmware updates available for this drive; did you download the most recent one available? The most recent firmware can be found here.

  • Hi Jemp
Have exactly the same problem as you on my brand new 8200. Have you tried the upgrade of the driver as suggested by Dell - Would be interested to know the result if you have?

  • I have a similar problem. I've got a new Dell Dimension 4300 under Windows2000 and I'm now in a love/hate relationship with my LiteOn DVD LTD163. I've never had any problems with the drive untill I had a DVD to play on it where straight off it decided it didn't wanna play. The drive recognises and accepts all CD-ROMs, CD-R and CD-RW media. It also accepts the occasional DVD when it suits. On inserting a disk it does not start spinning straight away as you'd expect. Instead it starts, stops, starts, stops... etc., and has made some unusual noises. Some DVDs work perfect every time, others some of the time, others not at all. I've done everything short of physically removing and reinstalling the drive, including uninstalling & reinstalling S/W decoder, Win2k, ATA storage drivers, & even all the P4 chipset drivers. Still nothing. Sometimes all DVDs work, and when the computer is rebooted, nothing works. Tried using WinDVD3.0 curtosy of Dell but found it 2 be flawed. Now using PowerDVD, somewhat better. All of the disks are perfectly clean, no scratches, all work on another DVD player. Anyone got any suggestions?

DELL-Cody provided a link for updating the firmware. Do i need to update mine? The computer is hardly 2 months old, and my D-4300 is not listed as being compatible for this update...???

  • Wollymammoth et al.,

I have exactly the same problem; all CDs are fine but the drive is quite finnicky with DVDs.  Some seem to work at times, others not at all, all of them fine on other systems with XP Pro.  I updated the firmware and it was no help.  I even found a way to make the drive region-free but this was also completely ineffective.  A few times the drive has recognized the disk but cannot decode it (in PowerDVD no sound will play though the video is fine and in Windows Media Player and Interactual Player there is sound but both video and audio are choppy.  Looking on other forums I have seen postings about this problem, all with this drive.  I don't know if it is only the Dell version that has this problem or if all Liteon 16x DVD drives do.
