Dell Inspiron 2020 All in One

This question is not answered

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 2020 all in one with Windows 8 (non touch screen) and it will not power on. The power light on the power button blinks a couple of times upon pressing it and it is amber in color. It happened a week ago and I unplugged everything and let it sit. I tried again the next day and it worked but didn't last long. Now it will not power on at all. I saw another thread going about this similar issue. Conveniently, the computer is a month out of parts warranty (also noticed the other gentlemen with this problem happened to be shortly out of warranty, suspicious). Please help me with this issue, I cannot find a power supply replacement anywhere and according to the other thread, it may not even fix the problem. Suggestions?

  • Hi dude1234567,

I apologize for the  inconvenience that has been caused to you. There is no such known issue with this system, these are machine and may fail over a period of time. However, you may follow the below mentioned steps to isolate the issue and fix it.

    1. Flea Power: Try to release the residual charge from the system and check functionality. Here are the steps:

      1. Disconnect any external peripherals (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) from the computer including the power supply.
      2. Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
      3. Reconnect the power supply. Try to restart the computer and check.

    2. AC Adapter LED: There is a LED on the power adapter connector which glows solid blue if the power adapter is working OK.

      1. Connect the AC adapter to a known good power outlet. Check Power LED indicator on AC Adaptor.
      2. If LED on the AC adapter is not lit (when unplugged from AIO Desktop), reseat brick and cable. Still if there is no light, we need to replace AC Adapter & Power Cord.
      3. If LED on the AC Adapter goes off only after connecting to AIO Desktop, then motherboard is faulty and needs replacement.
      4. If the AC Adapter is functioning fine, then it can be an issue with the Power Switch Assembly or the Motherboard and replacement is required.

    3. Power Button LED: As you mentioned that the power button light comes on and blinks Amber before it goes of indicates there is a power problem, a device may be malfunctioning or incorrectly installed.

  • Well, I tried all that you mentioned above and had no success. It seems pretty obvious that my problem lies within either the motherboard or PSU, which is truly unfortunate because I cannot find the PSU anywhere and the motherboard his half the cost of this machine brand new. Any suggestions?

  • Hi dude1234567,

I understand that motherboard is an expensive commodity, I would recommend you to refer to the links shared by me in my last reply to get in touch with Dell's Expired Warranty Support team if you are in USA or Dell Sales Team if you are in different region to purchase the parts.

If you wish you may check local computer hardware stores as well, if they have the parts available. Make sure that you buy genuine parts.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks & Regards
