Hi all - I have just joined this forum and would like some answers whether Dell Optiplex 760 USFF motherboard will actually fit my exisitng 755 case. I have the E8500 processor,120gb SSD and 2 x 2GB DDR2 PC-6400 800MHz in possession. My current 755 motherboard does not work and I am just wondering whether the existing components like colling fans, hdd fan caddy, heatsink, plus fittings are compatible with 760 usff mainboard.
I would like to hear from those who have done this upgrade before, Thanks,
I only like the Dell USFF case of 745, 755 and 760. I have the main components (given to me free of charge) already but thinking of just replacing the motherboard with a better spec to house what I have already got especially E8500 and 2x2gb DDR2 800MHz RAM. Just want a simple upgrade with minimal cost. It is for our Home Meda PC.
I believe the 180w Genuine Dell DA-3 Series Dell RXVT7, 86FYX, 77YWY DA-3 Family 12Volt A/C Power Adapter works with OptiPlex SX280, GX620, GX760, 745, 745c, 755, 760 Ultra Small Form Factor (USFF) Systems. However Earlier systems have a 150W adapter and therefore might be too small. There is no such thing as one size fits all for cases either because the Rear panel and the heatsinks and Fans vary. What you are asking is not supported by Dell or end users here.

SpeedStep, thanks for responding. Are you saying that the 760 USFF mainboard G919G will fit into 755 USFF Case and it requires a different extermal 180W power pack, cooling fans and cpu heatsink? Thanks once again.
I'm saying the case and power supply and heatsinks and other parts are not interchangeable and therefore its not going to work.
Thanks SpeedStep. I flashed the BIOS to version A20 and with a different C2D E8500 Processor, I was surprised to see that my 755 PC can actually run the CPU at 36-38' with stock heatsink.
So Dell 755 USFF works with Core 2 Duo E8500 with upgraded BIOS from A4 to A20. A22 is out there now so should I download it and see if E8500 still works?
Do you know if A22 works on E8500?
I have just put a 755 motherboard into a GX 620 case, and I have a 760 motherboard with tray waiting for a case. Since I can't find a 760 case, I'll probably put this into a 745 case, which is available cheap. All of the Dell Optiplex USFF motherboards will fit into any of the cases.
Yes. The 760 usff board fits 280sx to the 755 usff and connections, psu and case fans are all the same. As the older cpu's generated much more heat the heat sink should be fine but you will need a hdd cooler and hard drive caddy for the early ones or have to ignore the boot error is not installed. A cheap way to get a new os and processor if the latest bios is used.
Enjoy as a media server or low noise / space pc.
I have put a USFF 760 board in a USFF 745 with no problems using the fans, hard drive, memory, etc. (I did use the CPU out of the 760 though). Everything went fine with Win 7 Ultimate.
