My Dell desktop is showing steady amber light when i power it on and is not booting.
specification are: Dell OptiPlex GX280 DHS ,P4 ,3.0GHz ,512MB RAM ,40GB HDD
Please help me with the solution.
There are few steps I would suggest, which would help us in isolating the issue.
1. Releasing the flea power of the computer.-- Disconnect all the external peripherals from the computer along with the power cable, monitor, keyboard and mouse.-- Press and hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds.-- Connect only the power cable, monitor, keyboard and mouse and try to turn on the computer.-- Check the functionality of the computer.-- If it works fine, shut down the computer and turn it on by pressing the power button and try the process a couple of times. In case it doesn't work, follow step 2.
2. Re-seating the memory and video card.-- Remove all the memory modules and the video card from the computer and restart the computer and check if any beeps are heard. If the beeps are heard, it means that the motherboard is working fine. Then try only one memory stick at one time, in each slot. Example: Take one memory stick, insert it into the first slot, and check if the computer boots to windows. Then try the same memory stick in second slot and follow the same pattern until you test all the memory in all slots. This would tell us if the issue is with mother board or memory.
** NOTE: Please ensure that the power cable of the computer is disconnected before opening the chassis. Refer to the Service Manual for assistance on removing or replacing the internal components of the computer.
Please try the steps and write back to us, would be glad to assist further.
