510- WIndows could not start because Following site is missing or corrupt....

This question has suggested answer(s)

 "Windows could not start because following site is missing or corrupt \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Configuration\ System attempt repair by starting windows set up using original set up CD ROM select 'r' at first screen"   I do not hve a CD ROM- Windows came with computer. Any ideas?

Before that I had a screen, which is no longer appearing, when I tried to reboot original in the System steup screen:: "Performing auto IDE Config Drive 0 Disk Drive Drive 2: CD ROM Device Floppy Diskette Seek Failure F1 Continue F2 Set up... dont know if this info is needed, but thought it couldnt hurt. Above message is what I get now.

I tookk out and reinstalled securely the Monitor, keyboard and mouse cords.

TWO SHORT BEEPS

"1", "2" "3: LIGHTS

I have looked in the manuals, but this did not help

  • Bad Hard drive would be a guess.

    Trying to fix it would likely finish it off for good.

    Get a new drive and use a Drive wire or enclosure to recover any data if possible.

  • Sometimes I also receive "Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done A disk read error occurred"

  • To confirm the drive has failed, F12 at powerup.  Boot to the Dell diagnostics and run an extended test of the drive.

  • I performed the Diagnostics and received the following:

    Floppy Diskette Seek Failure

    Drive 0: HDS728080PLA380- pass

    Drive 1: No device

    Drive 2: Philips DVD+/-RW DVD8701: DIagnostics not supported

    Drive 3: No device

    Sometimes I also receive "Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done A disk read error occurred"

    The PBR disk read error means your drive is the original Dell Drive and the partition that has the OS is hozed.

    The drive is dying soon to be dead.  Time to get a new one.
