Ok, so basically, My Dell Optiplex is 3 years old (warranty expired), and I seem to have this annoying and strange noise coming from CPU Fan. The system is cleaned regularly I look after it. I have tried to lubricate the fan but I don't see any tabs or access points to get to the bearings. If anyone has any ideas on how I could remove this noise it would be much appreciated. Also the system never actaully heats up. Hi Scorpio 2.0,
What's the model number? Are you sure it's the CPU fan? In my experience, the video card fan is the problem 90% of the time.
Either way, I would not try to lubricate any fan. Replacing them is usually too cheap to make fixing worthwhile.
Please post back and let me know if you need more help.
yea it is indeed the CPU fan.. I have checked as I have stopped the graphics card fan to listen. unfortuantly I cannot find a place where the sell the fan I require. I cannot get to my PC at the moment as I am quite busy I will reply soon to give you the model number.
I have took the time of opening the case and fining the model number you require; PSD1209PL2-A Maglev. I neglected to mention that there is 4 little holes behind the sticker of the fan and I am not sure if that is a Bearing access point.
Just call Dell spare parts for a replacement. Here is the replacement procedure.
