I have my Optiplex 780 USFF connected to a full HD TV via DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
Everything's fine, except the sound.
I read through serveral communities, but couldn't find a solution up to now.I would like to have sound output via the displayport to my tv, so that I don't have to use any external speakers or headphones.
I got to know not every chipset is able to handle this.
Is this possible for the 780 USFF?
How would I have to do it?
In the quick setup for the Optiplex 780, there are only three video monitor connections. The display port cable, the VGA cable, and the VGA to display port adapter. the exact wording is Connect the monitor using only one of the following cables:
The DisplayPort of the chipset in OptiPlex 780 USFF has the capability to provide a scalable digital display interface with optional audio and high-definition content protection (HDCP) capability.
I researched about the issue you described and came across the following Dell DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter with Audio:
Check the "Customer Ratings" tab for this adapter wherein many users have shared their views about it. All that you need is a DisplayPort (Male) to HDMI (Male) Adapter.
Please check and confirm if you are using the same adapter.
